- What is the current watershed project?
A Lake Protection grant application to provide funding for the 2008-10
period was
submitted to the DNR in late April 2007 and approved in late June 2007.
The grant-funded project is
"Creating regional watershed based groundwater, hydraulic, and nutrient
models for local-scale use in the Upper St Croix – Eau Claire Rivers
Watershed."
The
project scope and deliverables were updated in January 2008.

The Upper St. Croix - Eau Claire Rivers
watershed (hydrologic) boundary is being used as defined by this
watershed map.

Eight 2008 sites have been selected. A map can be downloaded

Primary sites (water samples taken every two weeks)
- St. Croix River - below the Gordon Dam
- St. Croix River - Old Highway 53 bridge (east side of St. Croix
Flowage)
- St. Croix River - Cut-Away Road bridge
- Eau Claire River - just upstream from the confluence with the St.
Croix River
Secondary sites (water samples taken once a month)
- Spring Creek - Twin Bridges Trail Road (near confluence with Lord
Creek)
- Lower Ox Creek - Flat Lake Road
- Eau Claire River - East Mail Road (near Mooney Dam)
- Eau Claire River - Outlet Bay Road (between Upper and Middle Eau
Claire Lakes)
Note: Upper St. Croix Lake tributary stream sites
are not included as they are being monitored under a separate Lake
Management grant.
